Regalodge Hotel @ Ipoh

For my Chinese New Year (CNY) trip back to my in-laws' hometown, I booked my stay at Regalodge Hotel @ Ipoh (which is also my first time staying at this hotel).

The cost for one night's stay in a standard room is RM154++ (during peak seasons) and this was booked through Agoda.  However, during off peak seasons, you can get it at a much lower price (for as little as RM105++).

Before deciding on this hotel, I read many reviews on Agoda made by travellers who have stayed in this hotel.  Most of them reviewed this hotel favourably and that's the reason for its 7.8 rating (Very Good) on Agoda, I guess.  [#Tip: It would be wise to choose a hotel with a rating above 7.5 to ensure the hotel is a pleasant one.]

Here's how the hotel entrance and lobby looked like...although small with minimal decor, it was tastefully done.  The lobby was sparkling and bright and the seats (in the waiting area) were comfortable and inviting.

Checking-in was a breeze and took less than 5 minutes.  Our room on the 3rd floor (non-smoking floor) was clean, though small, and comes with wooden floors (which I like).  The beds were comfortable and there are TV and Astro channels to choose from.  There is also a hair dryer in the room.

Although this hotel is only 3-star, the amenities provided are not.  The mini bar was stocked with 2 canned drinks and a packet of chips plus 2 bottles of mineral water and a Maggi cup noodle (all these are free and replenished on a daily basis).  Coffee and tea making facilities were readily available.  [#Note: There was a time when they forgot to replenish the mini bar items, so I made a call and they came with the items within 2 minutes....fast service indeed.]

The hotel also provided 2 packet drinks a day for the 1st & 2nd day of CNY, nicely packaged with a red ribbon, as their CNY gift to guests (which was a nice gesture).  Newspapers are provided daily as well.

Full bathroom toiletries, like toothbrush, toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo, shaver & shaving cream, soap, etc. were also provided.  The shower's water pressure was great.  If there is one minor complaint (ok-lah, maybe two), it would be that the WC (water closet aka flush toilet) was kinda small and the bathroom sink could be newer/cleaner.

We decided to check out the breakfast provided by their in-house restaurant, The Limestone, in view of the numerous reviews of their good to excellent breakfast menu......and it certainly did not disappoint!

For about RM15 per pax, you can have breakfast included in your room rate.  Otherwise, you can order a la carte with prices averaging RM15 - RM19 depending on what you order and the menu is quite extensive, I must say.

The English Breakfast @ RM17 came with scrambled eggs (slightly runny but still ok), beef bacon (good), poached chicken (light and healthy), hash brown (slightly crunchy), baked beans, a choice of bread and either a juice, coffee or tea.

I chose 2 slices of toast that came with butter and strawberry jam...mmm, simple and appetising.

....and an orange juice.

We also ordered the European Breakfast @ RM19 that included a mushroom omelette (shimeji mushrooms, I think) and beef bacon, served with a choice of bread and juice as well.

All in all, the breakfast (bearing in mind the price and it is a 3-star hotel breakfast) was satisfying.  [#Note: Of course, you can't compare this to the many breakfast cafes in KL that serve 'kick-ass' breakfasts but it was 'sufficient' in my books.]

Do try their breakfast menu, when staying here, as it's quite extensive with lots of choices.

[#Tip: All prices in the restaurant are subject to 6% government tax only which was a welcome surprise!!]

My Personal Opinion

After experiencing the hotel stay first hand, I would concur with most of the positive reviews on this place.  Here are my top 5 reasons (in no particular order) for choosing Regalodge Ipoh:

1.  Cosy, clean and comfortable stay.
2.  Free mini bar items is a nice touch.
3.  Good (western) breakfast and restaurant.
4.  Full bathroom toiletries provided.
5.  Fairly priced room rate for a 3-star hotel with good amenities thrown in.

This would definitely be my 'go to' hotel in Ipoh as my stay was very pleasant indeed.  If you do visit Ipoh, you may want to give this hotel a go, you won't regret it!
